About Finch
Finch Languages has been created around what we think language learning should feel like, and we strive to provide the environment in which you feel like you’re achieving, like you’re developing yourself, and like you’re proving to yourself that you can do it. Language learning is tough, but with hard work, time, commitment and the right learning environment, it is possible!

Language learning provides quite incredible opportunities in every aspect of one’s life: community, cultural learning, cognitive development, career and academic opportunities, emotional intelligence and more. We design our courses and classes so that you can realise these opportunities and progress towards your goals, whatever they might be. We do this by incorporating four aspects of our philosophy into everything we do:
1 | Learning and Building
Learning a foreign language enables you to build a professionally, academically and culturally richer life for the future. The beauty of language learning means you can explore a diverse range of themes while practicing the skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking through film, television, literature, news, podcasts, music, food, and more. All of our teachers are also learners themselves, and so are able to understand the importance of your journey and the challenges within it.
2 | Community and networks
As a member of the Finch Languages community, you’ll be able to meet and build networks and relationships with other students with similar interests and aims. Language is, after all, the means for communicating and interacting with real people, and we facilitate that for you in an engaging and interesting manner. We’re also extremely enthusiastic about promoting the idea of cross-cultural exposure and learning, meaning that, with us, you’ll develop more than just your English competency. This allows for diverse, positive contributions towards our global society, however small.
3 | Focus on the individual
Building on the idea of structured flexibility, the emphasis on the individual, even in group classes, enables a richer experience. We will get to know your interests and goals as an individual so that lessons are developed and adjusted with you in mind. Our teaching methodologies are dynamic, evolving, proactive to your needs and reactive to your feedback.
4 | Care
Underpinning our philosophy is the foundation of care we have for our students. We care about your lives, your goals and your progress, and invest personally and professionally in all aspects of your learning process.
Finch: the meaning of the name
In trying to find a name that brought together the core values we wanted to instil into the school, while brainstorming we highlighted several terms and phrases that were particularly important to us.
You’ll see a lot of these around our site!​​​​
To better understand and conceptualise our philosophy, we tried to visualise what some of the words might look like. When considering the ideas of community, networks and society, essential values in our school, we came to see a lattice or network structure, representative of individual nodes joined together by lines that represent relationships.

After having recently enjoyed witnessing the sociable, talkative, communicative nature of weaver birds (which include finches) who build intricate nests that look just like the node network we were visualising, we decided to use this as a name that was more symbolic of our values. And, so, we decided to name our school Finch Languages.
