Service Description

CLOSED FOR BOOKINGS. We will advertise our January courses soon, please subscribe to updates to stay in the loop! IMPORTANT: 1. The start date and timings are given as a guide. Using information in your booking form, we will work together to find the best times for the two-hour weekly class and the additional one-hour community sessions. We expect there to be one morning/afternoon and one evening course. 2. This course is for learners over 18. Please don't book if you are under 18 when the course starts. 3. Once you have booked, if you refer another student to this course or another course, you will receive a £50 voucher for future courses with us. This acts as a thank you for spreading the word! The International Community group course has been designed to allow language learners of B2 (upper intermediate) or above interested in international affairs, diverse cultures, and topics within the social sciences to develop their English confidence and competency, such as written and verbal communication, comprehension, and grammar and vocabulary. Additionally, great focus is placed on a diverse range of skills outside of the traditional set of language goals. You will learn about interesting and engaging real-world concepts and problems, and, by the end of the course, be able to better communicate your ideas with others. The topics for this course are as follows (please note that you will have the opportunity to suggest different ideas for topics for the later stages of the course – we are always open to ideas!): Week 1: Lingua Franca Week 2: Soft Power (Grammar Focus: Contrasting Ideas) Week 3: Nationalism and Patriotism Week 4: International Sport (Grammar Focus: Second, Third and Mixed Conditionals) Week 5: Economic Sanctions Week 6: The Global Climate (Grammar Focus: Participle Clauses) Week 7: Human Rights Week 8: Refugees and Borders (Grammar Focus: Cleft Sentences, Inversion and Auxiliaries) Week 9: Gastrodiplomacy Week 10: The International Community Regarding skills, this course targets a wide range of mostly academic and professional skills, including but not limited to: debating; analysing complex arguments; academic reading and listening; persuasive writing and speaking; group and dialogic listening and storytelling.
